Turning Corporate Partnership Into a Force for Conservation

As one of the largest sustainability and conservation nonprofits in the world, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) had a clear ambition: tell its story more effectively to potential corporate partners. With a rich history and deep institutional assets behind it, TNC needed a narrative that spoke directly to what today’s corporate funders care about most, and positioned the organization as a strong, agile partner ready to meet them there.

How We Did It

  • Started with discovery. Stakeholder interviews, polling, a competitor audit, and a media and social audit clarified the corporate sustainability landscape, target audiences, and emerging opportunities
  • Built the framework. Analysis shaped a strategic communications framework, including the “Natural Capital” theme, message architecture, a content capsule, a thought leadership matrix, media strategy, influencer mapping, and a scenario playbook
  • Brought it to life. An integrated activation plan covered an internal team rollout, executive media training, thought leadership visibility, media outreach, and social and influencer engagement

The Impact

The strategic planning process gave TNC the foundation to launch a thought leadership initiative that continues to expand its reach. The organization secured speaking engagements at top sustainability and innovation conferences, sustained visibility in leading business and conservation trade publications, and activated sustainability influencers to help carry its story further, positioning TNC not just as a conservation leader, but as a partner fluent in the priorities that matter most to today’s ESG-minded funders.
